Thousands of children in their classrooms are without the visual skills required to succeed in school. One of the reasons for this is that most people assume if you can see the letters on the eye chart your vision is fine, yet being able to see the letters on the eye chart is just one of 17 visual skills necessary for academic success. The myth that '20/20' means you have perfect vision started in the 1800's when the eye chart was created.

As more and more of these apps become available to assist children with special needs, impartial reviews are highly sought after to assist purchase decisions. Hoping to do just that, and offer greater insight into the apps through demonstrations, I recently came across a4cwsn. A4cwsn — an acronym of “Apps For Children with Special Needs” — is a website run by Gary James, father of five children, two of whom are autistic. Recognizing that many apps need fuller descriptions and demonstrations than usually available on online stores such as the App store, Gary hosts video reviews of apps geared towards children with special needs. But nowadays, kids all over the country are spending a lot of time in front of the TV or computer, playing those games. That's a big change. And with the arrival of ever-better technologies, video games are increasingly vivid, realistic - and addicting. I've wondered for years whether playing these games influences brain development. I think it might make a kid's brain work faster, able to process more visual information.
